Day 24 Xenophilius Xenophilius "Xeno" Lovegood was a wizard who worked as the editor of The Quibbler magazine, the husband of Pandora, and the father of Luna Lovegood. His wife died when their only child was nine years old, and he raised his daughter by himself. He was likely the source of his daughter's eccentric beliefs, although he was often correct in his assumptions. He believed in the existence of the Deathly Hallows and supported Harry in The Quibbler when few others would. Xenophilius and Luna lived in a house shaped like a rook chess piece near the village of Ottery St Catchpole and were friends with the Weasley family. In the summer of 1997, Xenophilius and Luna attended Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour's wedding at The Burrow. Later in the year, Luna was kidnapped by Death Eaters. To save her, Xenophilius betrayed Harry Potter to Death Eaters. Harry, accompanied by Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley managed to escape. Lovegood was temporarily imprisoned in Az...

In 1995 by order of the Ministry, she was installed as the Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and then later the Hogwarts High Inquisitor and finally Headmistress, after Professor Albus Dumbledore had been fired. In all three of these positions at Hogwarts, she had enormous power over the students, teachers, and the curriculum, which she wielded despotically. Her time at Hogwarts was characterised by her cruelty and abusive punishments against students. She became well known at the school for her interfering and condescending ways which caused her to be despised by students and teachers alike. After her suspension from these additional posts and the fall of the Ministry of Magic, Umbridge ran the...

Trelawney: Suspect Seer

Professor Sybill Trelawney served as Hogwarts’ Divination teacher, famous for her dramatic predictions—most of which never came true. Yet, during a cartomancy session, she unknowingly delivered one of the most accurate prophecies in wizarding history. Her cards revealed ominous signs: the Two of Spades (conflict), Seven of Spades (ill omen), Ten of Spades (violence), Knave of Spades (a dark young man), and finally the Lightning-Struck Tower. Though she didn’t realize it at the time, these symbols foretold the epic struggle between Harry and Voldemort, Dumbledore’s tragic death, and ultimately Voldemort’s downfall. **Prompt** 5 Rounds on SOCK A. He fought against Death Eaters once more in the Second Wizarding War, during which he lost ...

Quirrell: The Nervous Nemesis

For such a pivotal character, surprisingly little is known about Professor Quirrell, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher during Harry’s first year. Before arriving at Hogwarts, he embarked on a “Grand Tour” of the world—a journey that ended in tragedy when he fell under the influence of Lord Voldemort. Behind his timid demeanor and nervous stutter lurked a chilling secret: Voldemort’s spirit concealed beneath his signature purple turban. Use a purple background color for Quirrell’s turban and a red CC for the Philosopher’s Stone. Knit CHART  on SOCK A.
DAY 15 Ollivander Garrick Ollivander was a half-blood wizard and the proprietor of Ollivanders in Diagon Alley during most of the 20th century. Ollivander was widely considered the best wandmaker in the world, with an immense knowledge of wandlore. He was very knowledgeable of the different magical properties possessed by different wands, in particular relation to their woods and cores. Many wizards and witches bought their wands from him. The Ollivander family had long been associated with the profession of wandcraft. The surname means 'he who owns the olive wand' which is of Mediterranean origin, although his wand was made of hornbeam wood, suggesting that the family emigrated to Britain from elsewhere, probably arriving in Britain with the Romans and set up a shop, to sell wands that were superior to the unreliable, poorly constructed ones fashioned by British wizards at the time. Ollivander had a professorial enthusiasm for wandlore and was immensely learned in it. A less ...

Neville Longbottom: Reluctant Hero

However, he was replaced by Bellatrix Lestrange in the Second Wizarding War. After Lord Voldemort's first defeat, Lucius managed to avoid imprisonment by lying that he had been acting under the Imperius Curse. He and his family remained members of the social elite, though Lucius continued to demonstrate his prejudice. When Voldemort returned, Lucius once again served him as a Death Eater, leading the efforts to obtain the prop...

Kreacher Komforts

In the Potterverse, some villains occasionally undergo surprising transformations, switching sides in the fight against Lord Voldemort. Kreacher, the Black family’s house-elf, was one such character. Initially sullen and fiercely devoted only to his former master, Regulus Black, Kreacher resented outsiders. His loyalty shifted, however, after Harry Potter honored Regulus’s memory by giving Kreacher the fake locket Regulus had used to thwart Voldemort. Known for his rich sense of humour, Filius was always fair with his students, even those who are not in Ravenclaw.
